How We Started

Welcome!
We are Jon Jon & Talia the owners of The Wardrobe Project! One could say our shop has been in the works since we met in a thrift store in Berkeley in 2018. Our mutual passions for vintage clothing & treasure hunting led us relatively quickly towards the path of reselling.

While we were both already working jobs in the fashion industry, we spent most of our off days scavenging thrift stores and garage sales for great vintage pieces, and the rest taking photos of the pieces & listing them online. In less than a year, we were able to quit our day jobs and transition to selling vintage full-time.

In January of 2020, we opened a month long pop-up shop in the back of a vintage furniture store in San Francisco. We quickly fell in love with the experience of sharing our curations with the community. But, when the pandemic hit, in person retail became a thing of the past, and for the first few months, we were forced to pivot back to online sales.

As the world began to open up to low-risk activities, we were able to begin participating as vendors in local outdoor markets, and eventually as permanent in-store vendors at a couple local vintage collectives.

Throughout all of this, our initial optimism and love for in person sales remained, and the call to create our own space in the Bay Area community grew louder.

Thus, was born The Wardrobe Project. A vintage and modern consignment store and collective of small makers & businesses. We aim to offer great curation at an accessible price, as well as to give our community a way to recycle and repurpose their own wardrobes.
